 Course Information

 The University of Western Australia has developed two Paediatric Graduate Certificate Courses.  The courses were originally developed to meet the needs of scientists working in Paediatric Respiratory Labs and Paediatric Sleep labs but appear to be filling deficits in physiology content of specialist medical training programs.

Both courses are provided using flexible on-line and electronic delivery and therefore do not require attendance on campus. The majority of students to-date have been international. Students are required to provide evidence of English language proficiency

As well as course brochures, the site provides guest access to the online teaching environment used to deliver components of the courses (WebCT). Through WebCT an example lecture is available to download although for students a CD is provided for each unit containing all the required lectures and a fast internet connection is not required.

Students are provided with the core texts for each course and are given access to the UWA library allowing access to all other reading material and online journals.

Students are expected to complete a number of practical assignments. To do this a spirometer is provided to students studying Respiratory Science and commercial sleep data acquisition and analysis instruments are provided to students in the Sleep Science course.

A useful component of the course is the bulletin board that serves for discussion of controversial issues.

Each student has a personal tutor to guide them through the course and to feedback information regarding progress.

Progress is monitored through formative and summative assessments through WebCT and example quizzes are provided on the web site.

The next course will commence in April 2006 enrolments for the 2006 intake close on February 15 2006
